TIP FOR LIFTING TAPE

You can lessen the tape's grip on the paper by gently warming it with a hair dryer.

ADVANTAGE OF PACKING TAPE

As mentioned above, because packing tape is so thin, it tends to follow the contours of the paper surface better than masking tape. When the tape is firmly pressed down, there is no leakage, even on small pieces.

Unlike masking fluids, which you can remove only when the painting is completely dry, you can remove tape (very carefully) while the painting is still wet. You might want to do this so you can fade out a few edges of the masked shape(s) with a damp brush to blend them into the background. This helps eliminate a cut-and-paste look while adding flow and unity to the work.

DISADVANTAGE OF PACKING TAPE

Tape may split when you lift it, making it troublesome to get off the paper.
